I have never felt like I have had this much time in my life

I used to make these giant to-do lists of things I needed to get done each day. I never got anything done. At the end of the day, I’d feel guilty that I didn’t get anything done, so I’d hurry up and get something done and then go to bed. The next day I’d make another list and it would be just as long, but I’d be in list debt from all of the tasks I hadn’t done the day before.

The first thing about to-do lists is that they make you feel terrible at the end of the day if you didn’t do anything that you set out to do at the beginning of the day.

Today, I made a to-do list but I changed my method of doing so. I only wrote down three tasks, and then I set out to do the first two. I had more than those three tasks to do today, but it is important to remember that there are things you want to do and things you need to do or there are consequences. My to-do list consisted of two things I wanted to do and one thing I needed to do. I accomplished the first two things on my list, and am about to fulfill my third.

I have never felt like I had this much time in my life because I stopped worrying about all of the little things that I “needed” to do, and just did the things that I wanted to do. Eventually, once the deadlines creeped up for the things I needed to do, I would do them. I’ve realized that worrying about these obligations is in no way productive or beneficial to me. If they don’t get done, maybe they weren’t so important. At least I had fun along the way.
