Have you ever been told not to take things too seriously? You’re trying to plan an event, or reach a work deadline, or close on a deal. The pressure of your environment sucks the enjoyment out of whatever you’re trying to accomplish. I look back at my days in sports in high school and college, and while I cherish those memories, one thought bothers me: I took it way too seriously. I could have had much more fun, and likely performed better, if I would have known how important having fun truly is. Whether it’s sports, work, or even hobbies, I will show you why you should strive to have more fun.

Natural Energy

The first reason to have more fun is the energy you get from it. There are certain things in life that simply motivate us. Having fun is one of them. I write a little about this here, but the main point is doing the same thing gets boring. This is natural; it’s okay to get bored of our work every once in a while. What’s not okay is simply grinding through this boredom until you reach your goal. You can do this if you want, but it will take much longer to accomplish what you want. Having more fun relaxes your mind and allows you to get back to your work reinvigorated and inspired.

Purpose

Another reason to have more fun is a sense of purpose. It’s easy to get frustrated with what we are doing and question why we’re even doing it. When we have fun, those questions and frustrations seem to melt away. You can lock yourself in your room, close the blinds, and grind out a project for six hours. Or you can take short breaks throughout to think back to the purpose of the project. The latter puts the focus on what is fun.

Attitude

The final reason to have more fun is your overall attitude. When you’re having fun, you’re simply more positive. People want to be around you, and those interactions give you more opportunities to have fun. It’s a delightful cycle, and it speaks to the core of what makes having more fun so beneficial. Sometimes we have to make a conscious attitude adjustment to have more fun. And this adjustment could literally change your life.

Conclusion

It’s certainly stating the obvious, but it’s easy to forget. Now that you know how important and beneficial it is to have more fun, you are ready to put it into practice.
