What do I really need to know to succeed at work?

Advice I wish a mentor had given me.

A friend asked me to mentor a new hire at Google.

I don’t think I’ll be able to do so since

I’m taking a break to focus on other things. Important things. Things like:

  • Like becoming one of the best standup comics in America.
  • Or making a dent on racial inequality.
  • Or growing a beard that isn’t embarrassing to wear in public.

Instead, I thought I’d write a quick bit of mentorly advice about success and happiness at work.

No hidden meaning, I just thought it was amusing. Image: “Ambitious Businessman and Mentor” © Aurielaki via Canva.com

6000+ words later, I realized I was in too deep.

This is the result of that.

Maybe you’ll get some use out of it, too.

Live By Design

Because success != happiness.

The Investing Lifestyle

Because time is your most important resource.

Bring Your Own Beer

Because it’s up to you to have a good time.

Process Over Product

Because you can only own your own.

Big Wins

Because most things just aren’t that important.

Staying Sane in Crazy Times

Because there’s a world outside of work, apparently.

Other People’s Advice

Because what do I know?

I’ll add other people’s advice here, as I come across it.

Read these NOW

These books are all game changers. Start practicing what’s in them and noting the results.

That’s all I’ve got!

That’s literally everything that I know that I know, right now.
