If you have a Kanban or Scrum Task Board you can use the first row, name it “Next” and limit it to a few items at a time.

On point. In theory, Scrum backlogs should be finite since the work is time boxed. For Kanban, the backlog “queue” should be maintained by the product manager and “topped up” when it is low. That produces the just-in-time flow that Toyota was after.
