2012 Volvo XC60 Quick Review
The Volvo XC60 is a very… how do I put it.. plain looking car. On the outside, there’s nothing striking about it. The rear end looks rather odd courtesy the weirdly shaped tail lamps.
Step inside and you get a taste of true Scandinavian design. The interiors are simple, minimal and most of all functional. The buttons and dials are arranged in a very different way than what you’re normally used to so for starters, it does get a bit confusing to make sense of it all.
On the go, the Volvo feels comfortable and focused. The XC60 has a certain poise similar to the likes of the Ford Ecosport which makes it feel very quick on its feet. The engine is smooth with the usual diesel turbo lag which is forgivable in a car so pleasant to drive.
Volvo XC60 Service
After a quick test drive, I took the Volvo XC60 to the Cartisan Preferred Workshop where the Mechanic was waiting to carry out the service. I parked the car in the service bay. The Mechanic popped open the bonnet and the service was underway.
The Mechanic first loosened the wheel lug nuts and then slowly raised the car off the ground with the help of a two-post lift. He unmounted the wheels from the XC60.
Inside the engine bay, the Mechanic removes the air filter from the air filter housing. He installs a brand new Air filter from Hengst in its place.
He then proceeds to remove the oil filter from the engine block. The Mechanic replaces the oil filter with a new one from Hengst.
The Mechanic locates the fuel filter of the Volvo XC60. Unlike many other premium models, the fuel filter for the XC60 is situated on the rear right portion of the car, right underneath the fuel tank. The Mechanic replaces this fuel filter with a brand new fuel filter from Hengst.
Finally, the Mechanic replaces the cabin filter with a brand new one from Hengst.
Brake Overhaul
While the filter replacements were in progress, another Mechanic attended to the brakes of the Volvo XC60. He removed the brake pads from the brake calipers and cleaned them with the help of emery or sandpaper.
Since the brake pads were in good condition, the Mechanic places them back into the brake calipers and seals the calipers shut. The brake caliper pins are tightened and the Mechanic finally mounts the wheels back onto the Volvo.
I took the car out for a test drive and confirmed that the service was a success.
