How long can the information movement last?
When governments all over are closing things down? The Edward Snowden interview, Beats Music Merger with Apple, and Net Neutrality only shows that IT and The Information Movement is lost, nearing its death throes.
This is really the story of three men.
Edward Snowden, and two others who’s names i will not state — one is working with a major news firm, the other still stuck on well, stuck.
I started looking into a IT career in the late 90's. As some who has a Associates, Baccalaureate, and now, Masters in the Information Technology field, i look at the industry with much disdain.
I have looked for jobs in the industry during my time in school — and sadly there wasn't such of a match to the job i wanted — better yet needed.
Meanwhile, Facebook was rising, twitter was rising… others had ideas in their hands.
But what i see, is a superficiality with this success. With the deal with Beats done, and the interview with Edward Snowden showing how the government doesn't even understand what information it has and how it can be misused, i realized that IT may have not been for me.
There is something so dark, so weak-willed in the Information Technology landscape. It has irked me for years, but its finally came to the fore with the Snowden interview.
Its the realization that Governments, Businesses and certain media industries have absolutely none, zero concept of what the Internet does, do not understand what the internet can do, but some how can dictate and control the flow of information as well as search and understand how people act on the internet.
This is not what I signed up for. I went to University to understand the skills needed to build a brighter future for myself and the world.
I realized that it may have been the wrong way to go.
That the world, instead of free itself from the considerable problems that need to be solved, double down on bad behaviors because that is all they know, and forever will know.
That these Internet Businesses prioritize the concept of content over substance or even long term goals. That creating haphazard, trope filled content for the urban marketplace some how makes you billionaires overnight. The same internet businesses collude never to get the best people on the job for any of there companies.
Its that government has no clue, no idea and does not care about the truth about the way the handled this issue of 9/11 and how to solve the problems without hurting the people of the United States. Snowden got this correct — that they used the pain of the events of 9/11 to convince themselfs that what they were doing was correct concerning the warrantless wiretapping, and all of the other insidious tools being used in the name of those who died in those towers.
But we know the way to solve the third problem, we just refuse to come to grips with answer.
The other two, may never be solved in a truly simple manner.
But for me, what I see is this.
I see that Information Technology, and the movement around it — is constricted by our human emotions and not our reasoning.
The advertising, SEO’s and all that trap Google has place us in, the morphism and “hamburger” menus that Apple has been apart of, the topless ladies and overpriced, weak product in every beats box containing its headphones, the content, content, content men that ruin any sort of promotion everywhere else on the web — it all comes from a reaction that our American life has been made plastic, and the result has culminated in the destruction of whole cities full of life such as San Francisco and New York City. They have become cities where the superficial progressive now lives, someone that thinks he high class, but came from world views in different states and nations that hinder their minds, breaks their spirits and creates a trash culture that does nothing be become a brown-noser to those that lead information technology and the surrounding marketplace, but have nothing to give, gained everything through lies and obfuscation.
I wish Dr Dre was a billionaire through his music. But then again how could he get that cash — without become superficial with a product?
I wish that Edward Snowden was heard out by our Government, but like he said, “People dont live that long, if that information is sent to the press”
I wish that WEB 2.0 wasn't such of a mistake. It took years to get right and it came at the wrong time.
I wish Netflix and many of the other streamers of tv shows, understand that their time isn't long for this world, that a breakdown is coming and then everybody would wonder what happened to the so called “the next greatest thing” and “savior of the internet”…
Because Net Neutrality is something more of a way to cover up an issue that will never be successfully looked at.
Is the internet a utility? or is it a Semi-Private service? Or does it belong to the public?
Because the answers all have bad ends.
And that’s why the information movement, and Information Technology as a whole, is about to suffer a dislocation. Aspects of this are already taking place.
Its time to realize that — the emotions and reactions to events that happened to institutions that these companies and governments have placed on the net and those that use the internet are childish at best, and barbaric at worst.
This is why, through the probing and prodding, — that I might want out of the IT field.
There is maybe only one reason I would stay. The only reason is that if a certain block on TV decides to expands its Internet presence. I want to be the one leading and helping on that end.
Otherwise, there isn't much of anything I can do with this field. Its broken. Its lost in its flatness from a decade gone passed by, but the processing is so full of it. There is talk about how to make UX better and fit things on a wave and 5G and mega fibers.
There isn't any talk about solving the superficiality that causes people to be fearful of using technology to better themselfs.
The NSA is too busy trying to look under a 13 year old girls skirt to be worried about Terror.
iBeats Music is too worried about how many more topless females (it will now have to censor because you know, men and Apple and non-porn things?) to can use to sell weak headphones.
Netflix is too worried about saying one thing to Comcast, another thing to level 3 and Cogent, and another thing to the Government about Net Neutrality, while its margins are getting squeezed in Wall Street. Amazon does this as well.
The intelligence departments are too worried about the language of Snowden, too childish they say, too strange and off putting, while their language is the sign and the signals of Fascists in our mists.
This is how the people who run the internet for their means, see the users. Cattle, Chattel to be lead to the slaughter of content — which can be tracked all day long so it can be used to make them conform to a will not their own.
I leave you with these thoughts — about the two men i didn't mention.
One man used a dream, to get where he wanted.
The other had the same dream and it kept getting in the way of his own success.
What Information Technology is in this country is turning into — is the latter man, who see the American dream for what it wants to be, and not the lost promise and absolute nightmare it has become.
The former man, was just focused on doing one thing— enjoyment with friends, to talk about what brought them and his friends together.
He now works at a news operation.
The latter man is still struggling to make ends meet, and still working towards a nothingness because they may have been nothing in him but platitudes of content, and promises of better days.
I wanted the what the former wanted from information technology, i got the latter.
That is why it maybe time to step aside and move to better ways of reaching my goals.
I want to sleep better at night.
Because I doubt anybody in the IT Field is.
