Monica Hernandez had it all — a decent job, a loving family, and a home of her own in Escondido, California. Then she lost her job, and was forced to live shelter to shelter. Though Monica struggled with her husband being diagnosed with cancer, watched him battle chemotherapy, and fought every day to raise two small children, she was determined to reinvent the lifestyle she once had. Her journey to redemption started with HOPE.
Just a year and a half ago, Monica found herself at Operation HOPE-Vista, a shelter that not only provides housing for those experiencing homelessness but also provides job skills and educational opportunities for those housed in the facility. It was here that Monica met HOPE Financial Wellbeing Coach, Claudia Caywood who helped her begin to turn her life around.
Today, Monica is working full-time, has paid off her student loans, and is shopping around for a new home thanks to Claudia and the Credit and Money Management Program at HOPE Inside CIT — Escondido. With Claudia’s mentorship and support, Monica is on her way to financial independence.
