First steps to kick off the week
Tonight was our opening reception and I was there to meet so many of the faces I know and love and to meet some new ones too.
The start of the first night is always a bit stiff, like any dinner party, everyone is just feeling one another out. How’s life. How’s the family. What is the latest news.
Then we all start to warm up. Memories from the last time we were together come up. Then introductions start to flow as the hair comes down a bit. Okay, not everyone still has hair but you get the point. Laughter begins to roll and hugs and the conversations begin to flow as easy as the wine and drinks.
This year was lucky. No major weather or flight carrier issues. This is a first in a few years. Only a few with delayed luggage, so for the most part, the attendees arrived without incident.
Looking forward to tomorrow, I committed myself to the 6:15 AM walking group that will walk about 3 miles in the morning to start the day off with some exercise. This became a tradition in Santa Fe, New Mexico and we have continued this every year since. It is nice to get to know some of the attendees while walking and getting to know the area surrounding the venue. Tomorrow, we will see a bit of the LODO (Lower Downtown) area. Some of it is shops, then we will see industrial, then finish at Confluence park, to turn around and come back in time to shower, eat, and start the morning session.
I am excited for my first class. I hope it goes as well as I envision. The second class will be better, I will have had time to practice with the first class. <grin>
Off to get rest… To be bright eyed and bushy tailed in the morning.
