Fixing up the new house

Today we had our IKEA consultation and with our measurements and planning. We have the shopping list and plan for moving everything around and having a kitchen that will be, not only functional, but a kitchen we can live with for many years to come.

We are stepping outside of the original footprint of the kitchen and moving the cooking to the island. This will give us a very open feel and when we are cooking and socializing with friends we will all be clear and open.

We did learn that using IKEA means we have some work on our part. We are responsible for all the tear down of the existing cabinets and we will be tearing out the existing soffit to give us the full height to the ceiling like the rest of the space.

We also discovered that they won’t measure for the counters until the the cabinets are in place and that the IKEA counters are, then, another two weeks out after that for delivery. That means we may be looking for another source for the counters.

We knew that they didn’t do the plumbing and electrical and we are good with that. We have good contacts for those. So we are not worried about that, we just now have to plan timing for everything.

Next step… off to IKEA with our shopping list and a big check…
