Great stories. However, I recommend a streamlined clemency process that is in the hands of average citizens (Pre-screened of course) that will handle this job better. I call my idea, California Clemency Boards but of course it can be modified for federal use.
The power to grant clemency or a commutation by the same people who sit on juries and in many cases, have the common sense to judge these individuals guilty when in fact they are guilty, these same individuals (Jurors) should have the power to grant prisoners a “Second chance.”
Times have changed since POTUS was first given the power to grant clemency, and today the office of the president is too busy to determine; from a lift of millions past and present felons, who is most deserving of a second chance.
Mr. President, I commend you for the many second chances you have offered to convicted felons, however, I and millions of other Americans have just as much common sense to say “We are going to give you a second chance” to the same 306 and counting that you saw fit to grant some form of a pardon.
I encourage you to consider after you leave office, to trust the same people you say you trust in, in selecting the next POTUS to also handle a new streamlined clemency process. In all honesty, the current process is outdated in my opinion. For instance: A tax cheat billionaire is more likely to get a pardon from a president than an average tasked with handling the same matter. And if you don’t know who I am talking about, his name is Marc Rich. Look up the matter, it might be more than 20 years ago but it is still the same pardon system today.
