Castle Club doesn’t get enough praise in the Austin, Texas music scene. Though the band has appeared on various bills every night of the week, it feels like the band should be more of a face for the heavier side of what the city has to offer. Combining Psych, Sludge Metal, and elements of old-school Heavy Metal, Castle Club is no stranger to crafting hard rock bangers that go the distance. On Wastoid, Castle Club is showing they’re ready to bust open the door once more with upcoming studio album III.

As soon as Wastoid starts, we are introduced to an ear-wormy, bluesy riff that quickly becomes the backdrop for the hard-living anthem we are about to experience. Frontman Patrick Keller’s 60s-style wail seamlessly intermingles with the track’s lo-fi sensibilities. The vocal harmonies and fuzzy guitars all over the track make the band sound like a liquor-soaked Velvet Underground performance from the 1960s. The heavy-set drum beat is also something out of a Motorhead or Black Sabbath tune, making this track a fresh take on what the band is influenced by and the powers of the band’s overall togetherness and robust mechanics.

The effects-ridden guitar solo throughout the track’s last chorus is a fun addition to the already incendiary guitar sections. The searing guitar leads that make up the solo feel like a worthy addition to send off the track that wears its influences without shame. “I’m a Wastoid, baby,” Keller exclaims throughout. Since the band has been playing and touring for quite some time, III feels like Business as Usual for the band, with riffs, solos, and booming drums galore.

To celebrate the release of the band’s upcoming album, Castle Club will play Austin’s premier outdoor venue, The Far Out Lounge. A venue with a massive outdoor area that will make for a more-than-ideal playing field for the cacophonous rock spectacle that Castle Club is set to unveil at the Austin venue. Joining them will be fellow local Austin acts Greenbeard, Monte Luna, and Queen Jane. This will be one local fans will not want to miss.

III is out 3/3 via Ghostspace records.
