A “Not To Do” List? Huh?

Sure, we all try and list out our plans for the day and what we NEED TO DO! For many, we succeed. For some…. well..

But, that’s not the topic of this post. I’m not here to help you create a To Do List, because most of us instinctively know how and put it into practice. I’m here to stress the importance of a topic not many people know about. The Not To Do list!

A normal To Do list is something we should all strive to have if we have too much on our schedule to manage. It’s necessary to be able to plan and execute while not having to worry if you forgot something. So yes, I still recommend getting in the habit of making a To Do list! But, that’s all about creating habits. What about those bad habits that are either becoming troublesome, or getting in the way of building new, healthier habits. That’s what a Not To Do list is for!

Some examples to help:

  1. Don’t watch 3 hours of TV.
  2. Don’t drink a soda today.
  3. Don’t buy fast food.

Things along those lines!

There can be others and they can be completely unrelated to the Not To Do’s I listed. The important part is to keep that list with you, and at first keep it short. Because another issue arises that you don’t have with To Do lists. Once you complete a task on a normal To Do list, you mark it off and forget about it, because it’s done! But a “Not To Do” is something you have to remind yourself of ALL DAY, it requires perseverance (hence why you wrote it down to help you remember).

That’s it! I just wanted to share a useful technique for getting rid of bad habits or anything you know you shouldn’t be doing. Take care and best of luck!
