Medium’s New Compensation System

Thoughts and Useful Resources

It is interesting to see how this has played out over the first few weeks. Anecdotally, most writers I know are making about the same or slightly more under the new system. I suspect the system has “redistributed” some of the Medium “wealth” from large-mass appeal authors, to many smaller, niche focused writers (which I think is a positive thing).

I would still be curious to :

  • See more data on earnings (other than who made above and below $100 as provided by Medium)
  • Know whether comment reading factors in to earnings, and if so, how
  • Learn if there is a minimum threshold for earnings to register (to prevent articles with high bounce rate/click-baity from racking up money as they did under claps)
