Part of it for me was lack of knowledge about what “coding” can imply. People who code can either be designers scripting mobile interactions in Framer or full blown engineers requiring much deeper experience.

Before I started using Framer, I had the impression that coding was this big scary thing I could never really understand. There has also historically been huge contention over “should designers code”, which made it seem like a very binary issue. You either code or you don’t. You’re either an engineer or you’re not.

Using Framer has taught me that it’s not so black and white. I can accomplish many prototypes in Framer with basic scripting knowledge I’ve picked up from examples, tutorials, and the Facebook community. I don’t consider myself an engineer, but I do code.

It’s not a big scary thing anymore; it’s actually incredibly empowering, especially for designers :)
