Global Accessibility Awareness Day is celebrated every year to raise awareness about the importance of creating more accessible and inclusive digital spaces for people with disabilities. To make the world more accessible, it is important to address the daily challenges faced by millions of people with disabilities. One such individual is Brandon Winfield, a former competitive motocross racer, who became paralyzed from the waist down at the age of 14 after a devastating accident. Today, Brandon is the CEO and Co-Founder of iAccess Life — an app making the world more accessible, one venue at a time.

Navigating the world with a disability can be frustrating and time-consuming, with unexpected hurdles like finding accessible parking or navigating crowded public spaces often being overlooked. Despite the progress made over the years, many public spaces and venues still lack proper accessibility accommodations, creating added challenges for those with disabilities.

Enter iAccess Life, an app with a noble mission to empower people with disabilities by allowing its users to research, rate, and review the accessibility of public spaces and venues. Built on the Google Maps Platform, iAccess Life revolutionizes the way in which people with disabilities can plan their daily activities or pick the perfect spot for their next outing.

In collaboration with Sayeed Mehrjerdian, Co-Founder and Chief Innovation Product Officer of iAccess Life, the duo utilized the power of Google Maps Platform to develop a user-friendly platform where people with disabilities can find accurate and up-to-date information about the accessibility of places they’re interested in visiting. By leveraging the Google Places API, the app can provide reliable information about various venues, ensuring that users can make well-informed decisions.

“Google Maps Platform was ultimately chosen because it allowed us to create a seamless user experience, providing accurate location data to our users,” explains Sayeed Mehrjerdian.

Since its inception, iAccess Life has grown from strength to strength, with users actively contributing to enhancing the platform’s usability by providing feedback and sharing their experiences with various venues. Brandon Winfield shares, “the power of user feedback has been invaluable in our pursuit of creating an accurate, informative, and supportive platform that genuinely empowers people with disabilities.”

By harnessing the power of Google Maps Platform and the collective knowledge of users worldwide, iAccess Life has made great strides in its mission to create more accessible spaces for people with disabilities. On this Global Accessibility Awareness Day, let’s remember the importance of an inclusive society and support platforms like iAccess Life in breaking down barriers and fostering a world where everyone has equal access to the joys and opportunities life has to offer.
