Marie Bonaparte, a great-grandniece of Napoleon, admired Freud and accepted the premise that clitoral orgasms were immature. Desperate to climax from penetration alone, she speculated that her clitoris might be too far away from her vagina and had surgery three times to relocate the glans.

Princess Marie (she was married to a Greek prince) also conducted a study (published in 1924) in which she measured the distance between the glans and vaginal openings of 243 women. She invented three classifications and reported that “téleclitoridiennes” (who had a gap of more than 2.5 cm) might never achieve the maturity of vaginal climax, thus being deprived of full womanhood.

Anyway, thank you for the article and apologies to anyone who is now feeling a bit queasy from the combination of surgical experimentation and pseudoscience.
