Max Stirner and Prescribed Freedoms

One of the most recent developments of American politics is the proposal of Medicare for All, a so-called “socialized” healthcare program which opponents have often described as socialism on account of the government’s increased involvement in the personal lives of citizens, and the supposed lack of personal freedom that would result. However, one philosopher in particular would point out that the government is already intimately connected to the very rights we associate with individual freedom and self-determinism. This philosopher is Max Stirner.
