Brave is an open source privacy-focused browser from Brendan Eich (Keep reading, the browser is better than the language).

Besides blocking ads and trackers Brave tries to bring a solution to the table by giving users the ability to tip the sites and “channels” they frequent with a token cryptocurrency called the Basic Attention Token which can be earned by watching ads, airdrops or just straight up buying them.

Earlier on the focus was primarily on YouTubers but additional channels are being being expanded upon. Most recently and most interestingly, GitHub was added as a channel which means you can easily tip GitHub users.

Can you spot the bug?

Micro-tipping isn’t exactly a new idea as we’ve had plenty of services that have tried to fill this niche. But having it available across the board in the browser changes the game a bit.

Go try it out, downoad brave then register for a creator account.
