8 Acai Bowl Spots Worth Trying in OC
Acai (ah-sah-EE) bowls are taking over as the hottest “healthy” trend with shops popping up left and right. These sweet, yet refreshing bowls, are packed with numerous health benefits and are so delicious!
What is acai?
According to Food Facts, this reddish-purple fruit comes from the acai palm tree, which is native to Central and South America. They are similiar to a cross between a blueberry and a grape. Acai berries are praised as a superfood, full of antioxidants, anti-aging and weight-loss properties. It is the acai berries that are used in the bowls. An acai bowl is essentially a really thick berry smoothie topped with granola, fresh fruits and other toppings, and devoured with a spoon.
Just in time for summer, here are eight of my favorite acai bowl spots in Orange County that will satisfy that sweet tooth, while doing some good for the body. These eight spots are sure to rack up your likes on Instagram for how pretty they are.
1. Blue Bowl
This place took number one in my list mainly because the bowls here are completely customizable. From the moment you walk in, you are hit with a friendly staff willing to help you create your own bowl. You start by choosing your base and then you choose your toppings from a Chipotle style counter. You can choose from acai or chia pudding base and then there’s options of fresh fruit such as strawberries, blueberries, bananas and much more. Next you can add granola, coconut shavings, goji berries… there is an endless amount of options. Their ingredients are premium, healthy and performance enhancing. Their acai is 100% organic, vegan and non GMO. Prices are reasonable and you can choose from three sizes. Pictured on top is a large, 24 ounce bowl, which costed $13. 2. Banzai Bowls
Banzai Bowls are known for being the original acai cafe. They feature a wide variety of acai bowls and fresh smoothies. Their ingredients are 100% organic including their juices and granola. The acai bowls they offer do not have any added fillers — meaning they do not add extra ice, sherbet or yogurt, which are extra calories. Pictured above is their “OG Bowl,” which is the most popular. Aside from a hefty serving, you got a fresh blend of acai topped with bananas, blueberries, strawberries and a honey drizzle. With locations near the OC beaches, this place is definitely worth trying on those hot summer days. Their prices range from $6-$8. Check them out at banzaibowls.com (949) 722–8329.
3. Nature’s Juice
They are all about a “deliciously healthier lifestyle.” Worth trying is their “Nutty Bowl” a thick blend of acai, almond milk, peanut butter, strawberries and bananas, then topped with slices of bananas, almond, coconut and their crunchy granola drizzled with honey. Nature’s Juice’s menu offers a wide selection of acai bowls. They also offer fresh smoothies, juices, and protein blends. Jujubar is another great acai spot worth trying especially if you also enjoy juicing. They offer fresh vegetables and fruit squeeze juices. They have a huge variety of acai bowls to choose from, as they each offer a different fresh fruit flavor to it. Their acai’s are blended with fresh fruit juice, from pomegranate to mangos. Pictured on the left is their “Classic Bowl” which features an acai blend of apple juice, banana and strawberry, and then topped with granola, fresh bananas, strawberries, blueberries and drizzled with honey. They currently have two locations: Costa Mesa and Riverside. (949) 548–4566

Technically not just an acai bowl store, as it is a market that offers fresh, organic produce and more, but they have a kitchen, deli and juice bar which is where the acai bowls come in. Although they have a limited selection, the acai bowl you receive is huge — double the size of a regular one from somewhere else. They are definitely shareable sizes and so worth it for the price. With fresh ingredients you can taste, crunchy granola and vegan options — this place is worth trying. Grab an acai bowl while shopping around the market.
