My news station, Boston 25 News keeps up with the Live Streams daily. They seem to only do live streams when it comes to the bigger news. The last live stream they did was Gov. Charlie Baker, who is the Governor of Boston, talking about the Las Vegas shooter looking up locations in Boston. I was looking at the reporters from their station and also the meteorologist, it doesn’t look like they do a lot of live videos either. There are a couple here and there but the videos are very spread out.

I think the trend with Facebook Live is mostly used for teases. News stations can use this tool way more effectively. I have seen it done with some of the stations in Burlington. Local 22, & Local 44 used to have a Facebook live stream when they did their morning show. It was kinda of a behind the scenes look at what was going on during the morning show. I really enjoyed it because it allowed viewers to interact with the anchors. They were very responsive during the duration of the live stream and if you gave them a comment they would usually respond back to it. Doing something like that is very important especially in a world that is so online and in tune with social media. In NewsLINC we started talking about doing little behind the scenes Facebook lives just to get something different up there. We are starting to have the same stuff on our Facebook page over and over again. I think it will help us grow a bigger audience and it just looks better on the homepage.

You can also search on Facebook, the search bar on the top of your newsfeed is a very powerful tool. You can look up people, you can look up keywords that will help you find something. I searched the word pickle and I got some pretty interesting stuff.

I got videos on how to make all sorts of pickles, post that friends or I have posted about pickles, and also people with the last name pickles, which in my opinion is pretty sweet.

I think using this as a reporter would be very beneficial, you can search keywords that you need to connect you to something, or someone. You can post about recommendations that could be helpful to a story and that allows the public. Like you’ve said Brett Facebook is a very powerful tool and if you know your way around it, facebook could be very beneficial to everyone.
