A hero (masculine) or heroine (feminine) (also known as “good guy” or “white hat”) is a real person or a main fictional character of a literary work who, in the face of danger, combats adversity through feats of ingenuity, bravery or strength; the original hero type of classical epics did such things for the sake of glory and honor. On the other hand are post-classical and modern heroes, who perform great deeds or selfless acts for the common good instead of the classical goal of wealth, pride and fame. Wikipedia

So post classical and modern heroes, the kind that could be real persons amongst us, do selfless acts for common good.

I had a narrow perspective on what selfless means until I joined mySugr. I have the chance here to work with many passionate professionals who take their jobs seriously and dedicate their experience and efforts to improve and simplify life with diabetes. I also have the chance to work with many people, who live their lives with diabetes. I know there is probably nothing extraordinary about that. But then you get to see them with a hypo (low blood sugar) still focused on their task, or on their way to the next meeting, or supporting others, or working hard to finish their projects in the last day of internship. They are walking on thin ice and still not giving up on something many of us would postpone, cancel or quit for a mild headache or hangover.

This is what I call a selfless act. Do you mind if I call them heroes?
