This is a great topic. I do not think there are people who have not experienced this syndrome, at home or at work. So, the stat is that we have all 100% experienced the imposter syndrome, at least once. (Unless you are a psychopath, that is.)
To address is you need to reconcile ‘the magic love triangle’:
- What you think about yourself;
- How you speak about yourself; and
- How others speak about you.
The good thing is that you can address 2 of the triangle elements by yourself.
I have found, based on my experience, that the way you speak about yourself is the ‘key to the castle’. Take time to crystallize your thoughts and you will find very positive ways to speak about yourself and as soon as you do that others will notice and positive feedback cycles start to make you realize that your skills do not actually speak for you. You have to be explicit about it and own it. Do that and you are going to be in great shape. You may stumble but that is part of the game. We all do.
