Catering — What Is It?

Catering — What Is It?

What exactly is catering?

Catering is the business of providing food service at a remote location — making it easier for everyone to enjoy a special event, especially the host. There are many different types such as mobile catering, event catering, and boxed lunch catering. Catering services can be offered to anyone for any event. There are many different benefits to having someone cater your events.

Mobile Catering

A mobile caterer serves their food from a vehicle. The company does not necessarily have a physical address and uses their vehicle for all of their customers. This type of service is popular at concerts and other outdoor events. These caterers may also be found outside of workplaces and in downtown business districts.

Event Catering

Most of the caterers will fall under this category. Event catering includes services for parties, business meetings, weddings, awards banquets, and any other event you can think of. This is also the most popular catering service offered. Everyone hosts an event at least once in their lifetime. It can be difficult to provide food that all of your guests will enjoy and love. This is where event catering services come in.

There are two types of services offered by event caterers: buffet style and the other is with a wait staff. Buffet style consists of multiple food items set up and the guests serve themselves. Wait staff services consists of servers brings the guests’ meals to them. Choosing to have a wait staff may be more expensive than choosing the buffet style, depending on the company.

Boxed Lunch Catering

Box lunches typically consist of a sandwich, fruit, and some of dessert, usually a cookie. Boxed lunches are prepared by the caterer and delivered to customer. They are popular among businesses with a large number of employees and schools. Boxed lunches are usually cheaper because they do not require any wait staff or cleanup services. The disadvantage to boxed lunches is that there are fewer options to choose from. The catering companies usually offer a couple different choices for your meat and that’s it. The boxes or containers will be marked with the type of sandwich included.

Choosing a Caterer

Choosing a caterer can be a pretty difficult task. There are a lot of things to take into consideration. The most important aspect to consider is your budget. You should figure out how much you are willing to spend before you start looking for a caterer. You do not want to waste your time talking to caterers that you cannot afford. Another aspect is how many people will be attending. You will need to let the caterer know how much food will need to be provided. The service provider will have to know how much food needs to be prepared or how many box lunches need to made. The last important aspect to consider is what type of catering you would like to have. If you are having a small get together then boxed lunch services may not be the choice for you. If you are having a huge corporate meeting, a buffet or wait staff may not be best for you. In the end, catering makes it easier on the host and usually offers your guests with great food options.
