Your self-driving car example is literally just an expansion of Amara’s Law and Moore’s Law. To the listener who’s familiar with both of those, you’ve just saved them time without weakening your argument in any way.

These “laws” exist partly as in-group shout-outs, sure, but they’re also convenient and efficient. People don’t have unlimited time to rehash the “laws.” Don’t go into the weeds when an accurate verbal shortcut makes your meaning perfectly clear.
