Question: Should the veil/hijab be freely worn?
In the Muslim culture, the veil and hijab is an essential piece of clothing that is worn by women and men daily. It is important to the culture because it expresses their religious beliefs and some wear it to present their Muslim identity. Taking these away the rights to wear the veil and hijabs can cause a stir that will not lead to a happy ending. By banning the veils it causes a barrier between the countries and cultures. Oppressing a culture causes hatred that would not be healthy, causing reasons to begin conflict and war. Targeting the veils and hijabs will ultimately lead to more hatred with religions, increase racism, and create the worst country to live in. In America, the constitution protects these rights of an individual. However it is still considered, a potential danger if a Muslim does choose to wear their clothing and walk publicly in areas. Especially in airports, people tend to be more aware of those who dress in veils and hijabs. However, what people do not know is that, in previous terrorist attacks none were wearing neither of these garments. Banning such things will not help our country but destroy the growth and progress America has already made. Although there are still racial problems, banning these veils will only make America take a hundred steps back. It is wrong to force anyone to be humiliated and embarrassed of wearing their own culture’s fashion.
Non-Muslims also wear the veils proudly and say it promotes feminism, makes them feel as if men respect them more, people deal with them as an individual rather than by looks, and lastly because it is beautiful. According to a Reddit user, she states that she does by her own will and chooses to decorate and wear it however she pleases. These points combined promote feminism within women. “If women can choose WHY and HOW, they are exercising basic rights. You decide if you want to, decide why, decide how.” According to this article, wearing the veil makes it easier to walk around with confidence without people staring, especially men. As much as it is not right how men treat ladies differently based on how they dress but tend to respect a woman more when they don’t see how she looks. Also as an individual, wearing the veil makes people directly deal with them rather than based on their looks. Lastly, we all know that the veils is a beautiful cultural expression for Muslims and are well admired by many non-Muslims.
