Listening to what’s actually being said
My main goal in starting these writings and a facebook page which I titled Discipling Others (which may change) is to help our young adults and youth find either Christ or become closer to him. Not that there are adults who may need Christ in their life because we all do (No matter what the religion). I always tell people I have a story to tell. The amazing journey that has got me this far and how I want to share it so I can help others and maybe others help me with comments or sharing.
I was reading an article about young adults and social media’s help with reaching our children or helping our children be led to Christ. This particular article hit home. It opened up my thoughts to something that my church says they are trying to do. The only difference is I want to go beyond the 20+ age bracket. We all have issues or things that bother us but how are we all receptive to listening to what is actually being communicated.
The way the author of this article caught my attention was with a caption that read: “When parents are asleep, students are ready to talk. Knowing this can help us reach out to students in a moment when we know they’re listening.” How many of us as teens or young adults waited until our parents were out or asleep before we stayed up until all hours talking with someone about the things taking place in their life, their dreams, and possible endeavors? I was one of those. In fact at the time it felt as if no one was listening, when they were.
If we listen closely what the younger generation is saying we might actually become closer to them, if they feel we are listening they might actually listen to what we are saying. My daughter has displayed this over and over, the whole situation finally clicked in my head. Taking the time to listen helps lead these youth in a matter in which could be beneficial to their spiritual growth.
I am going to leave you with this final thought: Jesus used Parables and different stories to help teach the disciples. Back then Jesus made use of the tools available to him to reach out to people where they were. Makes good sense doesn’t it?
