Hello! My name is Catherine McCoy, and I am a sophomore double-majoring in Public Relations and Writing-Intensive English. Originally from Peosta, Iowa, a small town just a few miles west of the Mississippi River, I have spent the last year and a half exploring the breathtaking city of Milwaukee. There is a lot less corn and much more noise, but I have been loving every second of it. Writing has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. Seriously, 10/10. I have always loved the way I could create a whole world of pictures and imagination using only words. As I always say, #wordsarepowerful. They have the power to change the world if we let them.

I believe in living life simply, and that there are numerous treasures around us everyday. I find peace and relaxation through reading, journaling, praying, sitting out in the sunshine, watching The Office with my family, and playing with all kinds of dogs, but especially my adorable golden retriever, Payton. I think the most meaning you can find in life comes from the relationships made, and I thank God everyday for the blessing of family and friendship in my life. My laptop background is a picture of my childhood friends at a wedding together. I am reminded often of how much they mean to me.

My family means the worlds to me; they are my true heroes. My mother and I act, dress, speak, and look scarily similar, but that is okay because she is the loveliest person I know. I have also been blessed with great men in my life: my two older brothers and my dad. I am humbled by the amazing deeds and accomplishments these people have done, but the best advice I have received is from Mom, when she would tell us everyday growing up to work hard and be kind.

Like any young adult living in Milwaukee, I love to go and try new restaurants and coffee shops around the city. I especially love Mexican food, and Botana’s is my new favorite find. I studied Spanish in school, but I can only wish that I am proficient enough to speak it fluently.

I also fall into my generation’s stereotypes when it comes to social media. The first thing I do in the morning on my phone is check to see if I have any new messages or notifications on my social media cites. I do not have a personal Twitter account, but I do use Instagram (@catherine.mccoy) and love posting pictures capturing the happiest moments of my daily life. I also use Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook for Dance Marathon here at Marquette. #FTK!

My favorite part about Public Relations is creating a positive brand image for your company. Some of my favorite brands are Toms, Love Your Melon, Ivory Ella, and other Buy-One-Give-One brands. My dream job would be to work in a PR department for a company that produces safe, dependable products, and gives back to the community.

If I were in a movie, I would love to be in Mary Poppins. It is my favorite movie of all time; I am absolutely obsessed with it. I would love to say that I would play Mary Poppins herself, but I do not think I could ever recreate the character with half the poise and grace that Julie Andrews did. She is an absolute angel. In that case, I would probably say I would be Jane or someone so I can still jump into chalk drawings and dance on the rooftops of London.

Three other facts that people may not know about me are that I am very Irish, which is a heritage that I take great pride in. I also am a dancer, and have been for the past ten years. I would consider it to be a great passion of mine. Lastly, if I could be any animal, I would probably be some kind of a bird, but not a goose because I am terrified of them (don’t ask).

That is a little glimpse of who I am, and the lovely yet simple life I live. I hope to continue to grow every single day, and I think this class will help me to do so. I am really looking forward to this class, I think it is going to be a ton of fun! I cannot wait to see what is in store.

God Bless,

Catherine
