WELL PLAYED
Its 6.pm on a normal Friday, expect this is not what I normally do on Friday evenings. Most times am at work, already home or on my way home. Today I have to be here despite thinking how terrible an idea it is and just as I am about to leave this fancy place they play a song I truly love. That somewhat convinces me to give this meeting an hour of my time.
“Can I take your order please? “It’s a tall slightly skinny short guy smiling down at me
“Yes please I would like coffee. No wait ,I think I will have chamomile tea” I say as my eyes quickly wonder from his face to the menu just to be sure I can afford it while at the same time trying to recall how much money I have both in my purse and bag.
I will be right back he responds as I am left adjusting the round cushion behind my long seat.
Two gentlemen walk in. I assume they are gentlemen because of how they are dressed among other small details. They briefly look around and after considering me for a moment, they seat not so far away from where I am. I politely pretend not to notice them.
They are talking about a car; it’s a car for a new a business and I lose interest in listening in. They actually both look tired of their own conversation and just as I am about to get my phone the unexpected happens.
A slightly short, curvy young woman walks in. She has her jeans high on her visibly defined waist and on top, a white fitting tucked in blouse. The blue stilettos she is wearing match her blue jeans. She stops to search for something in her black bag and when she looks up her expression slowly starts changing with her eyes stuck on one particular direction.
“No kidding man, it is her!” one of the guys exclaims
“Who?” his friend asks
“That chic I told you about” he replies with his eyes well rested on the young lady.
“Which one man .I lost count”
He clicks and stands up leaving his baffled friend behind
“Lydia! “ He begins playfully with a grin
She stares at him with a very surprised expression.
“Remember me?” he continues unperturbed by her lack of enthusiasm
“No, I think you have me confused with someone else”
“That’s funny and impossible” he laughs nervously
“It is not funny, I have never met you my whole life and if you will excuse me I need to get moving”
“What? Are you serious right now? It is me Adam. We went out couple of times, it was fun and then..”
“And then what?” she chimes in suddenly very interested. That’s when I figure that she does know this Mr.
“I said I would call you back. But I never did” he says as if afraid to continue this conversation
“I can explain myself” he goes now in a lower tone
“And you think am the kind of person you treat like that? I don’t think so .what was your name again? Never mind. You completely have me mistaken. Excuse me’
She walks away.
He returns back to where his friend is at.
“What the hell was that man” his friend immediately asks
Suddenly he starts laughing and explains that he had dated the girl in question briefly/ a few months or so and out of the blues decided he was bored and never called her back.
“Wow she is an actress “his friend replies
“An award winning one, I almost thought I was the confused crazy.”
“Well played “they both say and continue laughing.
