I’m a very middle-aged and new user of social networking technology — led by a forward thinking friend in LA who has left traditional publishing to become a writer on-line. I don’t feel qualified to comment — and have just started using Twitter (a sign of its decline?) but so far have been drawn to what seem like incredibly positive, warm-spots of innovation, creativity and connection. My kids love Snapchat. That’s where there are semi-curated group chats that are both local and global. Interestingly that was the one most parents feared as a place of abuse. But it seems far from the case — maybe because of the culture created by the curated material. Today my London daughter was watching greetings from Vilnius. I looked over her shoulder and thought — there is hope for the future.
