being new to new york, i’ve noticed that subway ads have some of the most blatant in-your-face ads that both shockingly self-promotional as well as this self-derisiveness about what new york living is supposed to be about (unapologetically self-interested). not a fan
Thanks for providing this real-world example of the limits of the basic needs model and the importance of thinking holistically. This reminds me of discussions we’re having at CMU’s transition design program about Max-Neef’s fundamental human needs as a way to think holistically — not just meeting needs, but also about understanding that there can be many poverties and types of prosperity as well.
