“….and claimed that immigrants were “building enclaves within cities” and “demonstrating against the host country and the host culture while they’re soaking up the welfare.”

This happened with the Irish refugees when they poured into the USA in the late 1840s through the early 20th century after the potato famine made life in their country untenable and then the Germanic refugees/immigrants from central Europe that arrived in massive numbers to escape war and poverty in the late 1800s to the first World War.

The WASP establishment reacted with great (and unnecessary) alarm at those barbarians at the gate. Same with the arrival of Swedes, Poles, Italians, Japanese, Chinese. And yes they formed enclaves within cities and whole towns of German and Swedish immigrants in the midwest, spoke their native language for a generation and then assimilated. I believe that this will happen with our newest immigrants. The pattern is clear.

We are culturally rich for the Chinatowns, Little Italys and other international influences that have shaped our country since it’s foundation. No western culture is not inherently superior. It is our blended culture that makes us unique and may I say, great.

For what it’s worth, the only people that have any right to complain about immigrants in North America are Native Americans and yet we hypocritically continue to do so without looking at our own history.
