Sometimes i feel we get so bogged down in debates on the ideologies around racism, while neglecting serious thought on the practical steps that can be taken to make our communities stronger and safer. While the mentorship program does seem like a diversion from the messier issues we need to address, it is a practical step with real positive effects we can see on the young people involved. Additionally, it creates a safe space for these kids and can help with the social and mental effects of police brutality and racial injustice. So it remains a positive. Great piece!
