Yesterday I Was Told That I’m a Type 1 Diabetic

Thinking about you a lot Joey:( Being blindsided and the forever thing sucks. I remember an hour after Jackson’s diagnosis we walked into the endocrinologist’s office and they already had a file for him with a thousand preprinted stickers with his name on them for blood draws. I was still in the meter not calibrated right phase. Ugh! And he also had a similar unquenchable thirst moment at Dewey’s pizza where getting the next glass of water was all he could focus on. It’s crazy. I promise for the most part it just becomes a way of life. For sure there are days that make no sense and are completely ruined by it though. Jackson can’t manage wrestling tournaments yet. Exercise and managing T1 is hard. Peanut butter is your friend though. Also fyi gushers are the best fruit snacks and you need far more than one or two packs ready for your first big low (lesson learned the hard frantic way on a subway in nyc!!). You are so smart though. Can’t believe you have already even put this blog post together. Please, please, please don’t hesitate to text me or Jackson if you have even the smallest question. We used to send pictures to our “t1buddy” of food we were about to eat (homemade is hard like lasagna) and ask what she thought the carb count would be because it’s so stupid and exhausting sometimes. Good luck! You are awesome! Tell your mom and dad to give you a couple hundred for some new pants you are about to have to buy!! Much love.
