Confessions Of a Drug-Addicted High School Teacher
Jason Smith

You did the right thing by bringing Vanessa to Kathy. It is so unfortunate and wrong that the administration and the school counselor did not make the situation right. As you insinuated in your article, winning the almighty football game took precedence over a crime. I work as a middle school social worker and could not ethically or consciously let some thing like that go. I have had that wider feeling of anxiety that you describe when someone stops at my door, asks if I have a minute, and then proceeds to tell me some horrifically emotional story. It is almost like your mind thinks, “I am not sure if I can handle this.” But then, thankfully, due to decades of experience, it does.
