A Day in Alcalá de Henares, Spain
Madrid is a vibrant and regal city with enough fabulous things to keep you entertained for the rest of your life.
But with over 3 million inhabitants and what seems like just as many tourists, it is crowded. All. The. Time.
As much as I love the bustle of Madrid, sometimes I just want to have a museum all to myself, to get a seat on a fabulous terrace on a Saturday afternoon and to saunter to my heart’s content.
Toledo and Segovia seem to get all of the attention from the guidebooks and tour programs in Madrid. While you cannot beat Toledo’s winding Medieval streets or Segovia’s magnificent aqueduct, there are other places in and around the capital city where you can see top-notch historic sights and experience the best of Spanish life.
And this is one of them. Alcalá de Henares.
Alcalá de Henares rocks my world. And after Toledo, this sweet little place is my favourite day out from Madrid.
