I’ve been a longtime JoJo fan. I became obsessed with the series since I was in fifth grade, and that obsession never faded away as I got older. While I see a lot of Stand power scaling in the series, I almost never see Hamon or Spin talked about, which is a shame because sometimes, these abilities are incredibly useful, and if used correctly, can be used to bring down even the strongest opponents. So, I’m changing things up a bit, and powerscaling Hamon against Spin, in hopes Araki will bring back both abilities for Jojolands.

Hamon, as explained by Will Zeppeli is life energy that strongly functions like and resembles the sun’s rays. It can be channeled through a human and into other objects or lifeforms on incredibly complex, disciplined, and controlled breathing. It can be used to overpower energy signatures or warp the body and environment to the user’s advantage. For example, Hamon can be channeled through the arm’s muscles to stretch them and disconnect the bone momentarily to extend a punch’s length, or match the energy signature of leaf to magnetize more leaves toward you. It’s most common use in the series is to use in martial arts to overpower and fight the energy sequences of vampires or vampire-adjacent beings.

Spin on the other hand, is not nearly as complicated and does not require the amount of discipline that Hamon requires. However, while easy to use, it is difficult to master and unlock the full potential of the technique, so first-time Spin users can only often use the Spin for mundane tasks.

In essence, Spin is an ability in which if one spins an object close to or in the Golden Ratio, a unit of measurement which has been used to build the most perfect-looking and stable pieces of art or structure. It is often assorted with creating the most balanced pieces of art or math in the world. If a ball, for example is spun in the Golden Ratio, it will spin infinitely and the user can control the energy of that perfect spin to either alter the environment around them or do damage to opponents. This spin can also apply to cells and microscopic beings. When combined with the Stands Ball Breaker and Tusk Act Four, the Spin can even travel into and continue to work in alternate dimensions. Examples of the Spin being used include, spinning a muscle on a lifeform to bend or shape it, Spinning a steel ball into someone to pierce their flesh, or creating an infinite whirlpool.

While both abilities are fearsome and in their own right devastating, the fact that Hamon is essentially only effective on vampires or everyday civilians, this holds it back from being truly great. It’s steep learning curve is also difficult to master, and very few Hamon users unlock its true potential, causing many to be amateurs.

Spin, on the other hand, is devastating in combat, and compared to energy sequences, Spin can rip off ligaments and muscle almost instantaneously by rotating the cells, and if special tools like Wrecking Ball is used, the Spin becomes a insanely destructive long-range weapon. Besides this, Spin is also very effective in healing, being able to spin torn muscles back together or spin cells an tissue back into their correct places. While Hamon is limited to the energy of a specific user, Spin instantly supplies infinite energy that can be used in so many ridiculously powerful ways that it beats Hamon out. Like come on, it beat one of the most powerful villains in fiction, a guy that could warp dimensions and instantly bring misfortune upon anyone he wanted.
