I once visited a local company and strewn throughout their buildings were little “motivational” signs of corporate blah blah blah. Interestingly, one sign has stuck in my mind after all these years: “Your happiness is not required for you to do your job.” I was floored — is that any way to motivate your employees? It is a very successful company, though they also laid off a slew of people about a year ago. I wonder if some of those employees might even be relieved, if that was truly the atmosphere from the corporate bosses.
