Sweet Caroline Poem: My Life in 100 Words

Sweet Caroline. Twirling around a pink room. “Pretty is as pretty does.” Stay pretty. Flowers in my hair, innocent and free. If you listen closely enough, you can hear the angels sing.

Bump, set, spike. Sprint, jump, win. Learn, memorize, ace the test. Athlete, knight, student, friend, girly girl, sister, daughter. Always busy!

If you are going to do something do it right. Work hard, be a good person, win the game, jump the highest, run the fastest, be your best.

All these things now, and so much more. Yet still that same sweet Caroline with flowers in her hair.

People I’m inspired by:

Saint Lucy

St. Lucy courageously faced persecution, torture, and eventually death for her faith. She never denied what she believed to be true and she was valient until the very end.

Mildred “Babe” Didrikson Zaharis

Babe lived in a time when women were expected to lead insignificant, domestic lives. Instead, this extraordinary woman became an Olympian, world champion, and professional in multiple sports including track & field, basketball and golf.

Wilma Rudolph

As an African American, Wilma was born at a disadvantage. Polio hit when she was young, and the doctors said Wilma might never walk again. However, Wilma, her parents and her physical therapists never gave up. Years later, not only was Wilma walking, but she was running sprints at the Olympics… and winning!

Song:

This is one of my favorite songs not only because I am named after it, but also because it’s all about never giving up on happiness and love. Everyone with an open heart will find it, someday.
