My father, a Chicago-area native and lifelong Cubs fan, was taken to the hospital with unexplained seizures the day the World Series started, was in a coma during part of the series, and was not sufficiently alert after coming out of the coma to be able to watch any of the games. Therefore, I stayed up until 1am to watch all of Game 7 on his behalf. It was the best game of baseball I ever watched.
When I reported to him the next morning that his beloved Cubbies had won, he pumped his fist in the air and said, “Yes.” The front-page article proclaiming the victory was the first thing he was able to read post-coma.
My thanks to the Cubbies for making my dad and his family very happy.
