5 Thrift Stores (Plus a Couple of Honorable Mentions) You Need To Know About

By Jaclyn Ramkissoon

What’s not to love about thrifting? Cheap prices, vintage clothes, a way to help the community, the list of good things just goes on and on. Of course there are the well-known establishments such as Goodwill and The Salvation Army; but, if you’re looking for something a little more Macon-made, a little more authentic, and a little more quirky, here are five thrift stores worth a visit when looking for your next fashion statement. In no particular order.

1. JC Thrift

192 New St., Macon, GA, 31201

478–305–7161

Who’s JC? Well, that stands for Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ Thrift Store has been in business for two years.

They have racks of snapbacks and sports jerseys. If that’s your go-to style, then this is definitely the place to go.

The workers in the store are mainly volunteers, so if you’re looking for a place to help your community, this is an option.

2. Wear.

464 First St.

478–319–7381

You’ve heard us talk about Wear. before in our “5 Places You Should Volunteer in Macon” post (which you can read here), but this little joint certainly deserves a spot on this list as well.

All proceeds go to Daybreak Homeless Shelter downtown on Walnut Street. They accept donations and are always in need of volunteers to sort items that have been donated.

They have a wide variety of clothing suited to fit everybody’s style.

3. Deja Vous Consignment and Boutique

2786 Riverside Drive

478–305–0845

This is a women’s consignment shop specializing in designer brands. Coach and Michael Kors are some brands featured, to name a few.

If you’re looking for designer fashion at a third of the price, this is where you need to be.

4. Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia Bargain Center

3375 Napier Ave.

478–743–5445

The Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia is well known in the Macon community, and has changed the lives of many people through its 12 month program of “Life Recovery.”

I had the pleasure of speaking with the Assistant Manager of the Bargain Center, Tina Stovall. Stovall told me how the lives of the people accepted by the Rescue Mission have changed, and how working at the Bargain Center has helped them through that process.

It has helped them gain experience, it has helped them gain people skills, and most of all, it has helped them gain life-long bonds of friendships and family.

An easy way to help with Rescue Mission’s cause is to visit their bargain center. All proceeds from the bargain center go directly back into the Mission. You can donate as well. Clothes, furniture, and money and food are welcomed by the Mission.

5. F.A.D.D. Thrift Store
1035 Riverside Drive

(478)-254–7888

F.A.D.D. stands for Firefighters Against Drowsy Drivers. This thrift store’s profit goes towards a unique cause — it helps volunteer firefighters get back on their feet after being injured.

Every square inch of this store is packed with personality. From its slew of eclectic antiques, to clothes, to furniture and everything in between, you’ll definitely find some out-of-the-box things here.

F.A.D.D. doesn’t turn any donation away, so you’re sure to find something one-of-a-kind here.

I couldn’t fit all my love for all the thrift stores in one article, and five obviously isn’t enough for all the thrifting you have to do. So here are some honorable mentions. Happy thrifting!
