Wow what an insane story, it was good to get out of that situation…
The term “digital nomad” is so vague now that people use it to mean multiple things (working from home, working remote while traveling, working from a physical office a few days a week and the rest of the time remote, being unemployed while traveling, etc). I’ll assume you mean working remotely full-time, being location-independent and mixing that in with traveling.
It already sounds like you’re a “digital nomad” tbh (freelancing, housesitting gigs, visiting new cities). Do you want to more fully adopt this lifestyle?
Regarding community, there are several online:
- reddit.com/r/digitalnomad (I saw this posted there)
- reddit.com/r/telecommuting
- remotive.io Slack channel (paid subscription, but its inexpensive)
- nomadforum.io (have to pay to join I think, but free to view)
There’s lots of skills and things you pick up while switching to being remote/DN. I’ve been remote for about 8 months now and write about how to solve some of the remote problems on my blog. Not sure if any of those posts would be useful for you, but just noting it as there’s only so much that can be covered in a Medium comment.
