None of these line up with the reason I had kids. I had kids because I wanted to experience “that” kind of love -- and I have. Before I had kids it was as if I’d been loving in 2 dimensions and an entirely new dimension of love opened up to me. However, I believe that another, far less glorious, reason I had kids is because my mother programmed me to. I was born in the sixties and times have changed, but I remember (from a young age) being groomed for motherhood. Interestingly, I made a conscious choice not to program my own children with this presumption and both of them (now in early twenties) feel absolutely sure that they don’t want children.
