Finishing Thoughts: Deliver Us The Moon

I kind of love games like this… walking-sim style exploration of a cool environment. In this game, you are exploring a derelict base on the moon; unravelling why a power reactor has gone offline for years with no trace of any of the staff.
The gameplay is fairly routine – explore various sections of the base, unlocking audio clips of past conversations, reading notes and piecing together what happened. You spend a lot of time solving simple puzzles around powering things up etc.
There’s nothing particularly exceptional about this game, but for some reason I enjoyed it. Everything is quite charmingly simple. The audio logs are slightly awkwardly acted, the computer interfaces are amusingly basic, the movement in gravity seems a bit odd, and everything just feels quite ‘low budget’. But the game doesn’t try to be anything more than it sets out to be, and I found it quite endearing for that reason.
One bit I did really love was the lunar surface. The bright white on the moon’s ground looked so vivid and realistic. It was a shame you don’t get to explore it much (just travel from A to B), but the very nature of the plot would make it weird to just go round exploring when oxygen is at a premium.
The game sets up a conspiracy of sorts, but never actually explored it, which was a shame. There was so much build up and then it never actually spent any time on the reveal – it just, ended.
Anyway, I enjoyed it despite its flaws. It wasn’t too long and so an easy playthrough for anyone wanting a low intensity explore.
