It was never meant to end like that.

So bitterly, so resentfully.

She spat out words she knew she meant but it came out so fast she didn’t even see it beforehand.

She felt cheated.

Humiliated.

Used.

You said you loved her when you didn’t know what love was.

You said you missed her when you felt no semblance of yearning.

Everyday, she waited.

She got excited when you texted, ecstatic when you called.

She longed for your attention.

Your words soothed her nerves, gave her confidence.

It was not long before she craved your touch with every fibre of her being.

Even your smell ignited the fire in her heart and jerked the tears in her eyes.

She missed you.

She missed you so much she dreamt of you while sleeping.

She missed you so much she was eager for the weekends, when she would have your time.

She missed you so much that even the thought of you not being in her life got her bawling.

It didn’t matter to you.

It never did.

It didn’t matter that she translated all her feelings into words and laid it on a platter right in front of you.

It didn’t matter that you hurt her.

It didn’t matter that you played with her heart.

It didn’t matter that even when she hissed those words at you,

she was crying her eyes out.

You never really cared.

You never saw that she was trying her best to be a person you would like.

You never planned to keep her for longer than what was convenient for you anyway.

She ached for you,

she pined for you,

she adored you.

she still misses you.

but she walked away,

and she’s never going to look back.
