A police hunt has begun for a jail escapee who broke free last week while receiving treatment in a hospital, with no leads as to his whereabouts.

The 36-year-old wanted man, Kim Gil-soo, was being treated for abdominal pain at a hospital in Anyang when he fled.

He was being held in the Seoul Detention Center, on charges of attempted robbery.

At 6.20 am on Saturday, Kim left the hospital by cab after requesting that he be released from custody so he could use the restroom.

Kim, who is 175 cm tall and 83 kg in weight, was last seen at the Seoul Express Bus Terminal in southern Seoul at approximately 9 pm on Saturday, according to authorities.

He was seen wearing a beige-colored sportswear.

However, they added that Kim might have changed his appearance subsequently because they think he dropped by a hair salon while he was on the run.

Authorities stated that they are using every personnel and resource at their disposal to find the runaway, noting that he was previously found guilty in 2011 of a sexual offense.

A reward of 5 million KRW (3,820 USD) was also put forward in exchange for information.
