Pop culture is a culture created by media and the public to attract the attention of young adults. I believe pop culture is a way for us to ignore the bad sometimes. There are so many bad things happening in the world that just being invested in something else will distract everyone from the negative. Although there are many examples of pop culture I think there is one television show that really stuck out in the public’s eye. Personally, I have just started watching it and I’m already sucked in after episode 3. Orange is the New Black is something that has never been done before. It is about a woman who is living happily engaged with her boyfriend when she gets a call that she has to go to jail for one year because of something she did a few years back. In those few years back she was with a woman and they did something illegal together so now both are suffering. After she gets put in jail everything goes downhill from there. On most shows they try to cover up the so called “inappropriate scenes” and just let the audience assume what is going to happen next but not in this show. In this show they show it all and they really do not care about the sex factors being portrayed to everyone. What also surprises me is how it is mostly women involved. Now in today’s world there are still a lot of people who do not believe in gay rights or anything related to that but this show seems to have no filter. It really pushes the boundaries of society and I really think it makes people think.
