Should you fly with French Bee (a low-cost airline)?

TL;DR: I bought a French Bee ticket from San Francisco (SFO) to Paris (ORY) and arrived on time. Would I recommend it? Yes.

Big Disclaimer: Individual experiences may vary :)

French Bee flight (taken by me)

Ticket

  • Choose from 3 ticket types:
  • Basic — no checked bag, no meal
  • Smart — 1 checked bag and a meal
  • Premium — 2 checked bags and a meal and a snack/drinks

Check-in

  • I bought a 1-way “Smart” ticket — thus I could not print my boarding pass at home, but I was able to check in on the website and that’s when I got my seat (team aisle seats!!)
  • I arrived at the airport and got in line to check my bag and get my boarding pass
  • Sometimes the automatic kiosks won’t scan your passport properly — just try another one
  • I was asked if I had a visa (since I bought a one-way ticket) so I showed the woman at the counter my student visa and was able to get the boarding pass
  • Seats are slightly narrower than your average seats on regular airlines (such as United, Air France, etc.)

Boarding

  • My flight started boarding around take-off time (so an hour later than scheduled) but we still arrived on time
  • Boarding happened at a normal gate (I’ve read elsewhere that French Bee’s gate locations can be at some random, hard-to-find corners of certain airports but it was not the case for me)
  • The flight itself was ordinary (the best type of flight)

Meal

Note — You cannot change your meal type unless you pay extra $$

  • A little saucer of pasta
  • A piece of bread
  • A small cup of water
  • A small piece of cake
  • A small portion of rice and orange chicken (Could not eat the chicken as I’m a vegetarian so that was disappointing)

Landing:

  • Landed on time, got another stamp in my passport, got my checked bag at baggage claim

It was a mundane flight — that’s all one really hopes for.
