Nicely Done.
To quote …” I am rrrrrright beside you.”
I completely agree and commiserate .
I agree with your view and commiserate with your compromise in order to get things done.
It wasn’t so long ago that there wasn’t much for linux software-wise to compete head to head with the competitors. Also it was a trick getting distros to run on many machines..
Time has passed and now …as you have aptly put it…now… we can almost extricate ourselves from the need for the apple’s and MS’s and Google’s of the world. Months…years if necessary… from now …all going well…there will be no need for anything other than Linux.
For myself I am in the same boat os-wise . A few years ago I decided to start my migration to Linux. There are a couple programs better suited (so far ) to windows …personally I have refused to go any further than win7 . Not interested at all.
Messed around with android and ios. Not interested at all.
As far as mobile and smartphones go… Maemo4 and Maemo5 (linux) are where I have been quite happy since 2007–2008 . I still use my n900 from 2009 as my main daily driver and my n800's and n810's for fun, experimentation…and I’m looking forward to my new device …as free (from proprietary bits) as is possible to make …the new Neo900 coming down the pipe soon. There are a few communities devoted to more transparent and user oriented devices and platforms… Maemo.org is one I’m happily a part of.
I must admit I quite enjoyed your article and will look forward to reading more from you.
