I am told by the establishment Democrats and their friends in the establishment press that progressives have a purity test. What exactly is this test? No one knows. Who has been subjected to it? No one knows. Are there any specifics to it whatsoever? No one knows. But it is said! Because facts are of little import for the corporate media who know all of their beloved, cherished politician friends in DC.
The assumption going in is always that whatever an establishment politician says is golden and true. Whatever a progressive activist says is tarnished and lacks credibility. …

It’s time to face the facts: the Democratic Party is broken and the corporate, establishment wing of the party is responsible. Republicans now hold most state legislatures, most governorships, the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the presidency. It’s time to rebuild the Democratic party from scratch and make it represent the American people. This is our platform.

Why do millennials like Bernie Sanders so much? I love that this is a mystery to Washington. It’s the authenticity, stupid. You can’t fake a 40 year record. This is a generation that grew up in a time when entertainment and media is based on authenticity and not the fakeness of television. Like Diogenes, when millennials went on their pursuit to find the one honest man in politics, it was obvious that man was Bernie Sanders.
The older generation grew up on blow-dried anchors, plastic politicians, and an ocean of pretense. Realness seems unvarnished and unpolished to them. Bernie Sanders is a man not of his time, but of this time. …
Most pundits seem to think that Hillary Clinton won the debate. That’s a tell-tale sign that she lost. Another sign are the polls that all of the media organizations have on their website — every one of them has Bernie Sanders winning comfortably. CNN’s coverage is the most comical. Their headline declares, “Clinton’s Confident Sweep.” The poll next to it shows people thought Bernie Sanders won 81–13%. That sounds a little closer to a sweep to me.
People see what they want to see. The pundits have always hated Bernie Sanders — you have to remember he is threatening to change the system and the mainstream media is a very comfortable part of that system. It bothers them in their core when Sanders talks about real change. On the other hand, they anointed Clinton well before the race even began. …
The American people are very right. The American people are also very wrong.
96 percent of Americans agree that it is important to reduce the influence of money in elections. This is a no-brainer. Just about the only people who disagree are five Supreme Court justices and the corrupt Congress who got elected through that money. Otherwise, real Republican, Democratic and independent voters all agree: If you take a lot of money from someone, you are likely to do what they ask you to do. This used to be called bribery. …
Cenk Uygur (host of The Young Turks) hosts today’s Final Judgment from Facebook New York’s News Desk. Cenk discusses the reality of the state of Iraq. ISIS fighters have captured another city in Iraq after US and Iraqi leaders said publicly that they have ISIS on the run. Do you agree with Cenk’s opinion on how to fix Iraq? Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

I’ve worked in television and online media. Right now, we have a show that has over 200 million views* on YouTube (The Young Turks). So, I have a great vantage point on both sides of this issue. But you must be wondering, who would even ask this question. What’s bigger — YouTube or TV? Right now, it’s not even close.
Television wins in a landslide. The TV networks have some enormous advantages over YouTube, but the reason I’m writing this is because these will not last. In the long run, YouTube will be larger than the networks.
Before I tell you why, let me first tell you why that should sound nuts to you. Here are television networks’ current colossal advantages. …
The religious right picks and chooses which parts of the Bible they want to apply. And they choose based on which outsider group they would like to hate next. First, they emphasized slavery in the Bible when they wanted to hate black people. Now, they emphasize the parts condemning homosexuality so they can hate gay people.
They are completely and utterly disingenuous. They don’t mean a word of it. They don’t give a damn what the Bible says. They just want to use it as an instrument of hate.
The Bible says eating shellfish is an abomination. Yet there are no Red Lobster Amendments. The Bible says you shall not wear two different types of cloths at the same time. Yet there are no Propositions against cotton and wool combos. …
I understand that it’s a little goofy to draw lessons from a fictional movie, but I am going to proceed nonetheless. My wife and I were just watching Braveheart and there was one interesting element in there. In the movie, the nobles of Scotland keep betraying William Wallace who is fighting for the people of Scotland. And my wife asked me why the nobles continually stab Wallace in the back if he is fighting for their country.
As Robert the Bruce explains to Wallace in the movie, “They have much to lose.” You see, those nobles profited from the status quo of that time. Wallace means to upend that status quo. It’s naïve to think that they will help him because they love their country. Of course, they will work against him because they don’t want to lose their status, power and riches. …
