New Things Are Coming at the Center for Global Business

Our 2019 strategic plan outlined a number of key priorities for the Center, but at the heart of all these efforts are our students. We are excited to announce our progress making these plans a reality.

More opportunities to increase global readiness.

To better support both McCombs International Business majors and Global Management certificate students across the university, the Center is developing new services, programs, and experiential opportunities.

Students at McCombs are encouraged to dream big and make sure they’re ready for an international world.

The Global Readiness Campaign will officially kick off in the Fall of 2020, when students will learn about new opportunities to add a “global readiness” component, including an International Business minor and a Global Management minor. This campaign will introduce a new era of international offerings at McCombs, including a “Global Readiness Week” featuring international contests, a global cultures fair, and resources for students looking to add international perspectives to their education.

More support for Students Pursuing International Business Studies.

Students pursuing a BBA degree in International Business or our Certificate in Global Management combine the foundational courses in diverse majors with additional studies in international trade and operations, and an experience abroad.

These intrepid students cross borders at UT and beyond in pursuit of education and excellence. The Center is committed to supporting their efforts, and in September 2019 hired a full-time Global Readiness Adviser to help students connect with professional and academic opportunities — and with each other.

Beginning next fall, McCombs students who major or minor in International Business will be eligible to apply for the International Business Fellows Program based on their academic performance and other accomplishments. In addition to serving as a credential for distinguished students, the International Business Fellows Program will provide an opportunity for exceptional students to develop advanced technical and managerial skills and learn from global leaders through networking and mentoring opportunities. Fellows will also have an opportunity to apply for scholarships for international experience and receive heightened visibility with employers.

New international internship opportunities.

Experiential learning is a priority for the McCombs School of Business, and for International Business students, an international internship is an outstanding credential. Unfortunately, complications with funding and visas can limit access to this type of opportunity. The Center is dedicated to increasing students’ access to international experience.

The Center for Global Business is committed ensuring students have the opportunity to learn from other cultures as part of their road towards professional success.

By leveraging the business connections of our global alumni and helping students satisfy the requirements of foreign governments, our international internship initiative will provide new ways for students to work overseas — and also to gain international skills with employers here the US.
